The Côte-sous-le-Vent is the land of the first settlers. Protected from the Atlantic winds, a rich volcanic land, this coast of the Caribbean Sea, had the preference of farmers. The colonists grew the petun (tobacco), cotton, coffee, indigo, cocoa and vanilla. Along the coast, we find these plantations and the old colonial houses, often converted into eco-museums. To the north, the town of Deshaies offers beautiful golden sand beaches. Then comes Pointe-Noire, whose specialty is cabinet making. Bouillante in the south remains the center of eco-tourism of Guadeloupe. The last is Vieux-Habitants whose valleys offer unique landscapes in Guadeloupe. Continuing south, one crosses the commune of Baillif and its rum Bologne, to arrive at the administrative capital of Guadeloupe, the city of Basse-Terre.

Parks and eco-museums are numerous in Côte-sous-le-Vent. In Deshaies, the Botanical Garden, located in the former property of Coluche, offers a journey to discover tropical plants. Pointe-Noire welcomes the Parc Aquacole and the Maison du cacao. The Mamelles Zoological Park, on the way to the Crossing, is the largest park in Guadeloupe, the Racoons come to eat us in hand. You can also admire a jaguar from Guyana. In Bouillante, the association Evasion tropicale proposes a small exhibition on cetaceans. Finally to Vieux-Habitants, the Café Museum tells the story of the Arabica of Guadeloupe and produces local coffee. The museum also houses a well-known artisan chocolate factory. On the heights, the Grivelière is the most beautiful old coffee house. Colonial life is explained there at the time of slavery in the original buildings. And more, the Vanibel Estate, whose visit is one of the most recommended of tourist guides. This list is non-exhaustive and we have links to the websites we found.

Guadeloupe is an archipelago of 5 inhabited islands. The Basse-Terre is a volcanic mountain range. The north is bordered by the "Grand-cul-de-Sac marin", a huge marine reserve in the National Park, where white sand islets rub shoulders with the mangrove. To the south is the administrative capital, the active volcano La Soufrière, which points to Les Saintes. The Côte-au-Vent is more urbanized than the one under the wind. Many rivers, waterfalls, and hot springs line it. In the direction of La Grande-Terre, the industrial zone of Jarry developed around the port of goods.

The other big island is "Grande-Terre", very ancient coral uplift. The economic capital Pointe-à-Pitre, not far from the airport, faces the industrial zone. The southern coast of this island is the Guadeloupe Riviera, with its hotels by the white sandy beaches To the north, the coast is bordered by the "Grand-cul-de-Sac marin" and its nature reserve to the cliffs of the Atlantic. Some shores contain beautiful seabeds and beautiful beaches and coves. The Désirade is a small island in the Atlantic that looks like a big rock. Very little inhabited, it is a haven of peace. Marie-Galante is a large, peaceful island. The Saintes are a micro archipelago whose 2 islands are inhabited: Terre de Haut, very touristic, Terre de Bas, more authentic. These islands are accessible by ferry every day from Trois-Rivières, Saint-François and Pointe-à-Pitre.
